A Study Of The Couplets And Plaques In Wuhan Modern Parks

Couplets and plaques, which are the peculiar gardening approaches of the traditional Chinese garden,have been applied frequently(in the traditional gardens).With the introduction of the western design ideas, the methods of design in Chinese landscape gardening has changed gradually. As the traditional gardening methods,what kind of role Couplets and plaques play in the current park design, and what impacts they have deserve our deliberation. Nowadays, we have been always emphasizing the exploration of landscape design approaches with Chinese characteristics, thus the research on the expression of the traditional gardening elements in modern parks seems particularly important.At present, the research about Couplets and plaques focuses more on literature.Research that has been made in landscape architecture field is also limited on classical garden. The study on forms, effects, and functions of Couplets and plaques in modern parks still remains nearly blank.Wuhan area has occupied an extraordinary position since the modern times,which has given it a certain cultural and historical value. Meanwhile, with the development of economy and the formulation of national policy, Wuhan area is in the course of becoming the regional center, and the city status is enhancing. Therefore,the study on the urban construction appears extremely significant.This dissertation regards the couplets and plaques in Wuhan's modern parks as the objects of study. Through the collection of samples, I analysed the cultural,political and spatial functions of them, and made a comparison of the couplets and plaques in between Wuhan's modern parks and the traditional gardens. Further, I made a conclusion of features and differences of couplets and plaques in the Wuhan's modern parks, and summarized the forms, functions, effects and application of them,which, I believe, will become the basis of the application of couplets and plaques in the modern parks.
