The Design Studies Of The Urban Fringe Space

The fringe space is the most complex and the most diverse of various spaces,providing very abundant activities for people. It exists among two spaces or more than two spacesas an important component of urban space. It comes up with the center and undertakes variousfunctions of the city together with center. In recent years, people gradually realized the role offringe space in the urban space, but there are still a lot of problems and insufficiency in theresearch and design of fringe space. So, it is the focus of the research in this paper to express itsdeserved function and role.The fringe space of Zhengzhou was taken as the research object in this paper. Some caseswere analyzed, including the edge of the building、the street and the public park. The other caseswere discussed, such as the landscape design of fringe space and the influence on human behaviorand activity. It was expected that summarizing the problem and shortage on the space design andproposing preferable design method of urban fringe space.In the theoretical part, the meaning of urban fringe space was analyzed. The relation wasconcluded between the fringe space and the related discipline, for example, Psychology、Landscape Ecology、Environment Behavior science. The effect between human behavior and thelandscape design of fringe space was explored. These built up theory frame of this paper,combining with design principle of urban fringe space.In the instance part, it was in Zhengzhou that the fringe space of some typical buildings、streets scene and public park was investigated. The design of architectural fringe space wasresearched on plant landscape、service facilities、non-barrier design and the joint-point with streetsscene by selecting three different kinds of forms, consisting of commercial buildings、culturalbuildings and complex buildings. The design of street fringe space was researched on the spacedesign of the street sides、street furniture、communication Patterns with construction by selectingtwo different kinds of forms, contained commercial street and the street full of traffic. The designof public park space was researched on the entrance design、the edge design between the streets、the human tendentiousness on the move by selecting two different kinds of forms, consisting ofleisure recreational parks near the residential area and commercial greenbelt near the near thebuilding. Then the problems and shortage were sum up according to their respective characteristics, even the design optimization measures were provided with design principles ofurban fringe space in order to achieve the effect of theory basis in practice.The urban fringe space is one of the important elements in building a harmonious city. It isbeneficial to express its status and role through optimizing and strengthening the urban fringespace. It has very practical significance in giving full play to the function of the urban fringe spaceand building people-oriented、harmonious and livable urban environment through our own efforts.
