Research On The Landscape Design Of Rhododendron Specialized Garden

Rhododendron is one of the top ten famous traditional flowers in China. And it has rich germplasm resources. The construction of rhododendron specialized gardens can enrich the application forms of rhododendron plants, also can play the role of introduction and domestication, and resources protection. On the basis of relevant literature and fieldwork, this study was to analyze the landscape design of rhododendron gardens. Main research results are as follows:1. Existing problems and deficiencies:from the investigation of several aspects (e.g., function division, site investigation, landform, garden path, accessorial building and planting) of rhododendron gardens in six parks (e.g., Xihui Park in Wuxi and Nanjin National Park), several issues were found as follows. There are small varieties of rhododendron plants in these parks. The management and maintenance of plants are improper. The seasonal aspect is not obvious in autumn and winter. Parks are lack of local and cultural features, and hominization.2. Analysis of the application of plants:from statistics of the variety of plants, there are42kinds of rhododendrons and58kinds of subordinate plants. Selecting10sampling points in the six parks, the author analyzed rhododendrons and subordinate plants on the aspects of frequentness, abundance, ornamental trait and season. Based on the analysis of frequentness and abundance, red rhododendrons take43.33%in top ten rhododendrons, and white ones occupy33.33%.3. Theories of landscape design for rhododendron gardens:adjusting measures to local conditions, harmonization, small see big, safety and typical culture. According to several aspects, e.g., integrated layout and function division, site investigation and topographical reform, design of garden paths, waterscape, accessorial building, facility and planting, taking Changsha City as an example, the author recommended50kinds of rhododendrons and60subordinate plants.4. Reformation design for actual cases:based on proposed theories of landscape design for rhododendron gardens, conceptual and subentry design, the author proposed reformation design for passageway, landform, waterscape and planting.The key of construction for rhododendron gardens is to highlight the rhododendron ecologically and artistically by utilizing instruments of gardens. The purpose of such construction is to build an ecological civilization and transmit and develop traditional culture.
