Stowage is a core process in the Ro-Ro operation, with a direct impact on the loading and unloading efficiency of the pier, transport efficiency of the ship as well as the entire voyage revenue of the owner. The traditional method is by virtue of artificial stowage experience and vehicle stowage in order, however, with the development of large Ro-Ro, stowage problems are becoming more complex, higher efficiency pursued, therefore, the old stowage methods can’t meet the need of growing Ro-Ro transport any more. This article is based on this situation, in line with reasonable stowage plans, under the premise of optimizing to stowage issues on the actual loading condition as much as possible, aiming to develop related systems, thus contributing to the Ro-Ro ship’s boat operations management and stowage program development.The main purpose of this paper is to do the following work:1) Analysis of the Ro-Ro ship stowage problem. Through analysis, the problem can be simplified as the knapsack problem of combinatorial optimization ones. For large-scale knapsack problems, the usual method is the heuristic algorithm, and genetic algorithm is used as a common heuristic one. On account of the characteristics of the knapsack problem, drawn from the experiences of previous researchers, genetic algorithm is selected in the work.2) The practical problems of the roller assembly were extracted, and Ro-Ro stowage mathematical model is built on a series of assumptions. What’s more, by algorithm design and implementation, a vehicle stowage programming solving the problemis reached by a genetic algorithm. It can be learned through numerical simulation that genetic algorithm is better than stowage traditional methods measuring the vehicle freight by the length and weight, and when the lane is shorter and the quantity of lanes is bigger, the better optimization results gained, providing the effectiveness of selected algorithm used in this article.3) The port on the multi-Ro stowage system is designed and unified planned, obtaining the system structure and the association relationship of each part. Stowage system’s data demand relationship is analysed, to design, build and configurate its database. Previous paper on the basis of an algorithm, using VB programming language, realize the management and query of the ship, lane information, vehicle type, vehicle information, stowage and port stowage information. While taking advantage of genetic algorithm to solve the vehicle loading model, ultimately maximizing the visualization of each deck stowage under return voyage conditions,, the Ro-Ro stowage becomes simpler, clearer and more intelligent, and greatly improved ship stowage efficiency.
