HDAP is a manufacturer specialized in producing and selling of automotive engineintake and exhaust valves. After over forty years’ development, HDAP has become one ofthe largest engine valve manufacturers in China in overall sales and in export. It nowproduces30million valves annually and plans to expand the capacity to50million plus in thenext few years. Since1986, HDAP is consecutively ranked on top in the country forengine valve export for23years.In2005, HDAP set up a solely owned subsidiary companyin the United States to service its customers in North America.HDAP produces valves foraftermarket which are service parts that generate many part numbers in low volume.Accumulatively,it has over10thousands part numbers. It involves complicated processes toproduce them and requires over70processes at most to finish one valve. In the early stage ofHDAP history,it is manually done in production planning and collecting manufacturing data.It is complicated and cumbersome, has high cost and is prone to errors. To solve thisproblem, HDAP started step-by-step the information technology system to replace the oldmanual and paper system, which including production, finance, sales, engineering andwarehouse manage system. However, because of each has its own structure and isindependent with each other, these systems can neither communicate with each other, norupgrade in sync. The utilization of information technology clearly was not optimized. Itappears that management capability has been raised however the overall efficiency is notsatisfactory. In order to improve further enhance the management capability, raise theefficiency, optimize the business processes, and perform the statistic analysis, so that themanagement team can make the decisions based on the scientific data, HDAP started workwith University G to develop the ERP System. This study is taking Purchasing Module in ERPSystem from HDAP as a case study, through studying, analyzing, planning andoptimizing its purchasing flow, eventually, a desired efficiency in purchasing is achieved. In first part of this study, basic information on Purchasing Department in HDAPincluding current business model and purchasing process is introduced, along with someexisting problems with current management model are presented. In second part, information planning is introduced. Through data analysis from invoicesand receipts, business processes are being optimized, and the function module for purchasing system is confirmed. Some fundamental setups are added for statistic analysis. Then, three-layer structures are established. SQL SERVER2000for the databasebackup, and Delphi2007as programming platform to design software interface. The study is summarized in the end along with issues which might be encountered inmodules which will be developed late, such as Worker Attendance System and ProductionPlanning System etc. |
