With the development of science and technology, airships are applied to manynew fields. Safe operation of airship is therefore very important. Net buoyancy ofairship can be known through volumetric measurement during operation, and functionsas effective basis for calculation in the safe operation monitoring system. Duringvolumetric measurement of the airship, using wireless communication can save a lot ofwires; thus the weight of the airship can be reduced. Meanwhile, combined with theoptimization technique of power supply, it can support steady operation of wirelesssensor nodes for6~24months only if the storage battery works. Compared with othercommunication technology, the reliability in data transfer of the wireless sensornetwork technology provides an effective foundation for people to monitor safeoperation of airship and calculate safe operation time. ZigBee technology is the firstchoice of wireless sensor network.Research on the volume monitoring system of giant airship is extremely extensive.This paper mainly focuses on monitoring the measurement parameters of airshipvolume. From this respect, the wireless sensor network is set up to collect temperaturedata and pressure data of the giant airship, angle and pulling force of the anchor ropeare measured as well, which meets the system requirements basically. With thedeepening of the project, the function of the system is increasing, so at the end of thispaper we put forward some views on the monitoring systems by wireless network.This paper focuses on the wireless sensor network based on Zigbee technology.This network is applied to volumetric measurement of gigantic airships, and it help toform a mesh wireless monitoring network. The wireless sensor network in volumetricmeasuring system of gigantic airship includes hardware and software design of theZigBee nodes which include coordinator node, routing node, terminal node withtemperature sensor, terminal node with pressure sensor, terminal node with tilt sensorand terminal node with tension sensor.This paper takes the CC2530RF core board as hardware developmental platform.In its periphery, temperature-collecting module, pressure-collecting module, angle-measurement module and tension-measurement module are extended; a wireless meshnetwork with self-healing function is built; then the test of communications betweenPC and coordinator node is done. This paper takes the Z-Stack which provided by TI Company as softwaredevelopmental platform. The application layer program of the coordinator node,routing nodes and terminal nodes in the wireless monitoring network fo r airshipvolumetric measurement are written. And application layer program includes driverprogram designs of sensors and serial mechanism with Z-stack protocol.In this paper, topology and self-healing function of the ZigBee network areverified by using the software of ZigBee Sensor Monitor which provided by TICompany. An experiment of sending and receiving data between coordinator node andterminal nodes through routing node is done by using the software of Packet Snifferprovided by TI company, which verified the communication process of the data inZigBee mesh network. At last, the sensor data is collected and preserved.
