When the locomotive in the process of running, it’s a normalphenomenon that the axle temperature rised due to friction. But when theaxle temperature unusually increased, then the axle has a problem. If thefault can not be found in time, it may cause even cut burning shaft axis,and for the safe operation of locomotives pose a serious threat. Therefore,the real-time detection axle temperature changes and thus determine theaxle is in normal operation is essential for the safe operation oflocomotives. Early detection of temperature changes can only be judgedby members of the original method overhaul touch, by virtue of feeling todetermine the bearing operating condition. In this way, the labor intensityof testing personnel, low efficiency, and also due to differences in theexperience of different operations and lead to different results. But thisdetection method has lagged behind and unable to detect the real-timelocomotive axle temperature.We apply the ZigBee technology in the freight locomotive axletemperature acquisition, in order to achieve the purpose of real-timemonitoring of locomotive axle temperature and improve the locomotiveoperational safety. We based on the ZigBee technology, with low energyconsumption, maintenance free for the design goal, adopting modulardesign concept and designed the terminal node collection module, thecoordinator node module and PC. And every module is coupled with alow communication. The terminal nodes collection module with CC2430and DS18B20as the core, realize the acquisition and transmission data.The coordinator node module with CC2430and MPS430as the core,realize the data forwarding and routing function.Because the terminal module and ZigBee communication moduleare powered by battery, and the system need to continue to work for morethan half a year, so we are saving optimization of operating mode. Andwe propose a packet with self-correction methods and the heartbeat signaland parameter data compression transmission, effectively reducing the node data retransmission rate and system traffic. Since the freight traincars often need to be recombination, in order to realize the flexiblenetworking and reduce energy consumption, we analyzed the routingalgorithm based on ZigBee technology and carried out extensivecomparison, proposed an improved algorithm to adapt to the specialsystem of freight locomotive, the algorithm to the transmitting speed andgood energy saving effect and greatly improved the data.The system simulation platform by building a network, datatransmission quality, energy consumption and other aspects of nodetesting and verification, and ultimately achieve the design goal. Currently,the system is being carried out on a test run of a regional coal train ingood condition.
