A Study On Zhejiang Ancient Pavilions

Pavilion is an important form of traditional Chinese landscape garden architecture. Zhejiang has adiverse topography and water environment as well as a profound historical and cultural heritagewhich make the ancient pavilion has rich cultural connotation and shows special local style. And alsothe pavilion is an important landscape element in all kinds of garden styles in Zhejiang province. Thestudy of the ancient pavilion has an important role and great value to the study of ancient architecturestyle and ancient garden construction.Based on the existing ancient and profound pavilion，this paper focused on the history，architectural form, cultural connotation and other aspects to discuss the ancient pavilions in Zhejiangprovince. Through the comprehensive utilization of ancient and modern literature and the fieldresearch, this paper will discuss the problem from under aspects.Firstly, this paper made a survey on the situation of the famous ancient pavilions in the history ofZhejiang province and made analysis of the character of the pavilions in every period combined withthe history. Then made a survey on the distribution of the existing ancient pavilions and summarizedthe main influence factors.Secondly，Collected more than one hundred of old photos, taken more than one thousand of fieldphotographs, and fininshed the survey and drawing of about30Pavilions in Zhejiang. Basicallysummed up the shapes of features on various Pavilions in all over the province.And analye the designmethod with the ANCIENT BOOKS.Thirdly, this paper made a deep research on the ancient pavilions’ cultural connotation fromnatural, life and emotional beauty aspects. In this progress, this paper focused on a detailed analysisof Ke Pavilion, Orchid Pavilion, Cold Spring Pavilion and other ten famous pavilions in Zhejiangprovince.At last, this paper put forward protection suggestions and strategies to deal with the existingproblems in the protection of ancient pavilions and the practical problems in the field research. Thenbased on the modern design examples to made an analysis of the inheritance and development of theancient pavilions in Zhejiang province.
