It’s an important direction for the development of landscape architecture to create a naturalenvironment, which is also gradually be valued. Plants, mountains and water are importantfactors in shaping the natural background of the landscape. To grasp the essence of plantlandscape in the traditional landscape garden, Xiequ garden and Jiqing pavilion was chosen asthe research subject. Literature, survey, history and comprehensive analysis research methodswere used, and basic on three research points which were building, reforming and rebuildingand current situation, selected from the263-years history of Xiequ garden and Jiqing pavilion,the evolutions from landscape to fragmentation of plant landscape were clarified. In the light ofthe analysis of history, there were three parts to probe the spatial features and design techniquesof plant landscape in Xiequ garden and Jiqing pavilion: First, the spatial design techniques ofplant landscape were analyzed in creating the ecological environment, describing comments inpicture of mount-water and pursuing natural artistic conception. Second, the spatialrelationships between plant and terrain achieved the view-borrowing, blocking view andforming scenery by cooperating with each other, meanwhile, the view-borrowing was the bestoutstanding. Third, plants and architecture together organized the sequence of the garden space;moreover, the former enlarged the small scale which contributed to form a spacious room.Then two developing constructive recommendations on plant landscape of Xiequ garden andJiqing pavilion were proposed centering on the historical reconstruction, and some suggestionson plant landscape for present garden’s designing were concluded from Xiequ garden andJiqing pavilion, which is a brilliant landscape garden. This research not only inherited ourtraditional gardening culture, but to some extent, promoted the development of naturalenvironment’s construction for the present landscape architecture.
