The Study On The Methodology Of Space Construction And Context For The Garden Wall In Traditional Private Gardens

Garden walls have been widely applied in landscape design and play an importantpart in the construction of garden sceneries and garden atmosphere. There arediversified architectural elements in traditional gardens, among which a “wall” is themost fundamental entity element. Representing the spirit of architecture, the “wall” hasunique characteristics and occupies a significant part in the architectural history. Themost evident feature of landscape architecture lies in its dual functions---practicalityand ornamental value. As a part of it, garden walls are used not only for architecturalusage, but also used to establish poetic imagery and garden atmosphere. In the art ofgarden culture,“garden walls” exist as a “space symbol”, which can be understood fromfour angles, the practical function, cognitive function, symbolic function and aestheticfunction.Firstly, the thesis introduces the literature review and analyzes the traditionalgardens from four dimensions, time, region, space and context.
