Waterscape, which is an important part of the outdoor environmentof campus, has great significance to the formation of cultural atmosphereand landscape features of campus. Studying campus waterscape featuresand its aesthetic function, establishing waterscape aesthetic qualityevaluation model and putting forward feasible optimization designstrategy on this basis, can not only replenish related design theory ofcampus waterscape, but also provide scientific basis for the building ofappropriate waterscape on campus. The abundant water resources in Shanghai provide superior naturalconditions for the construction of campus waterscape. As a result, most ofthese new campuses in Shanghai have waterscape. This research tookwaterscape on new campus in Shanghai as research objects, with fieldsurvey method and data analysis method to fully study the characteristicsof campus waterscape, including the types, locations, size and waterbank’s morphological characteristics of waterscape. Using the SBEmethod to evaluate waterscape’s aesthetic characteristics, and explore therelationship between landscape elements and aesthetic quality of waterscape, and then put forward feasible campus waterscapeoptimization strategy, which has certain reference value to the research ofcampus waterscape. Some results based on the research of the waterscape on12newcampuses in Shanghai are as follows:(1)The most common waterscape types on these new campus inShanghai are water fountain, lakes, rivers, whose proportion reach as highas92%, the rockery waterfall, water curtain, dry spray are rarely used.Water fountains are mainly located in the starting point of campusaxis, sometimes in front of administrative building or library; Lakes areusually surrounded by buildings of different functional areas, constitutingthe core of a campus. The distributions of rivers are usually free, and theyalways connect or separate different functional areas as a line.(2)The relationships between water scale, lake’s scale, river’s scaleand the scale of campus are as follows:Y=-0.681506839+0.077407976X,Y=-0.025601214+0.023574803X,Y=-0.685461584+0.05354405X,Respectively, Y represents campus water area, the area of the lake, river area, X represents campus area, the unit is hectare. And the scales ofrivers are always lager than that of lakes.(3)Most of the shorelines of waterscape on campus are straight line or curve. The most common section form of the bank of waterscape isvertical type, followed by slope type.(4)50samples are selected to evaluate the aesthetic quality ofwaterscape and build aesthetic quality model. Here are the results:A.Effection of each landscape element on SBE ranks in descendingorder is: plants, water, revetment, buildings and bridges.B.The Mode of action of each landscape element to SBE is asfollows:Rich vegetation type, distinct vertical layers, proper open spaceformed by the plant disposition can improve SBE to a largest extent.Among different types of waterscape, the weight coefficient of shallowpool is the largest one, followed by vast lakes and rivers. Shoreline withbetter hydrophily and more natural curve shape can improve SBE on alarge scale. Low-rise and distinctive buildings nearby water are helpful toimprove SBE.C.At last, combined with field investigation and the waterscapeaesthetic quality evaluation model, put forward feasible optimizationstrategy from two aspects:The planting design should meet the requirements of differentfunctional areas and the scale of waterscape on campus, and then, improve the plant species diversity nearby waterscape, rich configurationmode and planting form properly. As for the shoreline of different waterscape, puts forward specific optimization countermeasuresrespectively from the plan and elevation aspects. The main innovation point of this research is doing a systematicinvestigation on the waterscape on new campus of universities ofShanghai for the first time, summarizing and analyzing the waterscapefeatures on these new campuses. At the same time, on the basis of theresearch of campus waterscape characteristics, evaluate the aestheticsquality of waterscape and quantify the relationship between landscapeelements and SBE of waterscape on campus, which has a certain realisticguiding significance.Due to the limitation of time and energy, some other research such asthe waterscape quality satisfaction and ecological features of campuswaterscape haven’t been done. That’s also what needs to be done in thefuture research.
