Traffic accident caused great personal injury and economic losses. In all kinds oftraffic accidents, frontal impact and side impact have the highest probability ofoccurrence, and result in the most serious personal injury.100%frontal impact and side impact safety of a domestic economy car wereanalysised in this paper. The key energy absorption componets and key bearingcomponets which had poor performance were improved. The simulation results show thatthe optimized model has a better impact safety performance. In this paper, the specificwork as follows:1. According to the general requirements of crash simulation analysis, meshgeneration of a domestic economy car was performed in the Hypermesh software.Material parameters were set according to the mechanical behavior of materials. Then, all components were assembled, afer movement relationship of parts were set up, thefinite element model of the domestic economy car was established2. According to the requirements of the national front impact regulation and sideimpact regulation, boundary conditions and initial conditions of the model, were setup,as well as the input and output parameters. Finally,100%frontal impact modal andside impact simulation model were established. in order to ensure the accuracy of themodel, some necessary adjustments was made to the mode.3. The100%frontal impact and side impact of this car were simulated in this paperand the simulation results were analyzed, mainly analysised the bearing force capacityand energy absorption characteristics of the main bearing force and energy absorptioncomponents in order to find out problems in structural design, preparing for structuraloptimization.4. According to the analysis results, considering the cost, the optimization andimprovement to main bearing force and energy absorption components has beenperformed on the aspects of structure shape, material strength and thickness in the100%frontal impact, side impact. The simulation results show that the optimized model hasbetter crash safety.
