Research For The City Waterfront Landscape Planning

Urban waterfront is an important resource in urban development. Reasonable planningand construction of urban waterfront space and landscape has a very important value forimproving the quality of the urban environment, riching urban landscape, maintaining thequality of inner city space and promoting the city’s socio-economic development. As one ofthe "Eight Rivers around Chang’an", Jue River carries the cultural development of the entirecity, shows the appearance of the city and regional style.On the basis of a lot of domestic and foreign literatures, this article builds the process ofurban waterfront landscape planning, and takes Jue River waterfront landscape planning as anexample to analysis empirically. The paper draws the following conclusions:1、the paper summarizes the important relationship of the people, city, nature and water.The human rely on water to survive; the cities flourish because of water; the nature regulatesthe climate and ecology of water.2、The paper condenses the three major components of urban waterfront space——water、 land、 water hairline; and the three components of urban waterfront landscape——culture landscape, natural landscape, artificial landscape.3、The article uses the methods of analysis, arrangement, summarizing related eightfeatures, that is, characteristics of natural ecosystems, ecological sensitivity, public openness,history and culture, spatial diversity, space permeability, continuity and integrity, directionand recognition; six planning theories of the urban waterfront landscape include the landscapeaesthetics, the landscape ecology, theology, the landscape architecture, the urban publiceconomics theory, the theory of sustainable development.4、Based on practical experience of author, the paper summarizes planning processes andobjectives of the city waterfront landscape. The planning processes include preliminaryresearch, site analysis, program ideas, preliminary planning and construction design. Theplanning objectives are identified to stimulate the economy, create jobs and to create attractiveurban environment.5、With Jue River waterfront landscape planning for case study，Urban Core Section ofJue River is planned a landscape belt, four landscape areas and multiple landscape nodes. Abelt is scenic belt of Jue River; four areas include Ancient Capital of Rhyme District, Happy City District, Ecological Science District and Jue River’s scene District.6、The author presents the innovations and deficiencies of the research on the basis ofsummarizing in the article content, and looks forward to the future of waterfront landscapeplanning. Hopefully, the research can play an important role in similar planning to improvethe overall quality of city, and highlight the city’s character.
