Study On Application Of The Sensory Evaluation Methods In Product Design

Sensory evaluation is a scientific method, which depends on people’s sense of sight, smelling, touching, taste, and hearing, for the measurement and the analysis of the products. The application of sensory evaluation methods in product design is to feel products by sense organs (i.e. sense of sight, touching, smelling, hearing and taste), and to compare and value the products according to the aspects of shapes, colors, materials, functions and usage modes. The evaluation activities based on sense organs make strong and direct bonding between evaluation personnel and the products. Sensory evaluation is applicable to products design evaluation which closely contact with the organs of the consumers.The paper conducts the cognitive-based research on the sensory evaluation methods through sense organs, consciousness, and cognition. Taking statement difference method and eye-moving analytical method as the example, the characteristics of the method of design evaluation for the relevant products based on sense organs is analyzed, the characteristics of application to sensory evaluation method from product design evaluation are summarized, the solutions to be dealt with for the application to sensory evaluation method in product design are put forward; taking hair dryer for example, the method of choices for product sense standard is designed and used as evaluation standard for sensory evaluation method in the application in experiments. Taking the design plan for hair dryers for example, the relevant experiments in the application to sensory evaluation method is designed. Through the introduction of eye-moving analysis method, the relevant experiments in the sense evaluation for proper operations are designed, combining specific requirement and characteristics of sensory evaluation.The paper explains the application procedures for the sensory evaluation method in the design for the products, and regulates the application to sensory evaluation in experimental preparation, experimental environment, experimental staffs, the selection and training for the tested staffs, experimental methods and experimental analysis of result; solves the problems for specific operation of the sensory evaluation application to the design of products, which further rises the scientificity and effectiveness of the application to sensory evaluation method; and explores the application to sensory evaluation method in product design, and it supplements the research for sensory evaluation of the current product design.
