Contemporary Interpretation Of Late Ming Dynasty Literati Bedroom Furnshings Thought

After thousands of years’ historical refinement, Chinese interior furnishings art has its profound cultural stigma. The quintessence of traditional culture embodies not only the developmental course of a nationality’s pursuit of materials, but also its inherent ascetic characteristic on the spiritual level. Therefore, it is an issue on our top concern and needs to be actively explored that how to make the contemporary interior furnishings art keep both its material and spiritual value.Based on the concept of interior furnishings of Southern literati in later Ming Dynasty, this paper attempts to take an inheritance and innovation of its spiritual quintessence and adopt them into the contemporary interior furnishings concept, to put forward the interior furnishings concept truly suitable to the contemporary people. The paper is divided into2parts. One is the analysis and summary of the concept of interior furnishings of Southern literati in later Ming Dynasty. Explain the reasons of such designing concept formation from3perspectives of respectively the historical backgrounds of new and old era’s collision, the outstanding personality of self-seeking and their gentle qualities and warm feelings. Then after an in-depth analysis of such concept, summarize the five levels of dimensions concerned with the designing concept, namely instinctive level, cognitive level, emotional level, aesthetic level and behavioral level. The other is the inheritance and development of the concept of interior furnishings of Southern literati in later Ming Dynasty. Along with the discussion of the dilemma of the contemporary interior furnishings, put forward that the then concept of interior furnishings has provided guidance and enlightenment for the contemporary concept and endowed it with new characteristics of the times. The ultimate goal of this paper is to affect and influence the contemporary people on the aesthetic concept of interior furnishings with the designing concept of Southern literati in later Ming Dynasty emphasizing on self-development, emotions and life, thus to arouse the quest and pursuit of ideal lifestyles deep in their hearts.
