| The rail transportation is a very useful tool to deal with city problems, which havebeen bought by the development of cities’ social and economic, such about population,transportation, resources and so on.When more and more cities just start to build their new rail transportation systems,the rail transportation systems of some major cities have been completed in centralareas and began to extend to the metropolitan fringe. It is not only to solve theproblem of inner area, but also to guide the development of the metropolitan fringe. Inthis context, there will be a study issue about how to plan the peripheral areas of railtransport stations to conform to the characteristics of the metropolitan fringe withexisting rail transit theory.Following the theory of urban catalyst, this paper attempts to combine railtransit and pre-urban area to explore the interaction between them and the effect instation area, and summarized the suitable rail transit station area planning strategy formetropolitan fringe.Firstly, this paper introduces urban catalyst theory as the way of thinking andTOD theory as the base of station area planning.After that, this paper explores the catalytic role of rail transit on two scales,regional macro scale and station area micro scale. On macro scale the paper analyzethe external environment characters of the station area, which is effected by rail transitand pre-urban area factor, and summary some design principles according to thesecharacters. On micro scale different catalyst-types of station areas are found out,according to the mechanism of urban catalytic.At last, the station area planning requirements of metropolitan fringe aresummarized from examples analysis and theoretical description. Theoretically, theTOD mode is expanded to metropolitan fringe, and the planning strategies aresummarized. In practice, it takes a typical metropolitan fringe station project-BeijingShunyi metro TOD station area design for example to explain how to apply thesestrategies to the different catalyst-type station area. |
