The change of school-age population in our country leads to the rapid increase ofprimary school students population. And the distribution adjustment of the compulsoryeducation schools makes many students attend school far away from their home.Because of the change of life style, many parents can not go home at noon to cook forchildren. Thus more and more students need to have lunch at school, which causes thatcanteen planning and design of canteens is more important in primary school. However,the study on the architectural design of primary school canteen is not enough right now.Comparing the " City Schools Building Construction Standards "(referred to as the "02standards") published in2002with the "Rural Schools Construction Standards "published in2008, it is clear to see that the per capita area of city school canteen is evenlower than the rural one, which leads to a discuss on whether index on primary schoolcanteen area in "02standard" can meet the current demands. Therefore, it needs toverify whether the index on school canteen in "02standards" needs the demands today,and discause the development trend of city primary school canteen functional layoutand area in the architecture design, promote the development of architectural design onprimary school canteens in China.In this paper, students dining space in city primary school canteens is used as theresearch object. Summarize the characteristics, layout, function and development trendof primary school canteens according to the massive literature research. Aiming at thetwo common meal-getting modes, taking mode and delivery mode, in primary schools,investigate and analyse their advantages and disadvantages. Make full use of literatureresearch, case study and statistical analysis as research methods, focuse the the onewhich can basically meets the requirements of today’s primary school’s canteens,devide the basic using area of a canteen into dining area and kitchen area. Set upmathematic model, using the horizontal analysis, campare the per capita area in theindex in "02standard" with the caululation rescult of the mathematic model, and try tofind out the problems in the index of "02standard". Also, by reorgnizing the data of thearea of20primary school canteens in the main urban area of Chongqing city, verify thearea aspect in the mathematical model in "02standard". And summarizes thedevelopment tendency of primary school canteen per capita area. Analysis the canteenarea data in related construction standards, through the analysis of horizontal comparison, sum up the reason that rural primary school canteen area is larger than theone in city. Summarize the function set and area development trend of the canteen spacewhich meets the use requirement of students’ and teachers’ using. Discuss the streamlinedesign and area change trend which meets the health and epidemic preventionrequirement for kitchen. Finally, take the canteen of Chongqing Shuren Primary Schoolas an example, analyse the function constitution, streamline layout and area design. Andempirically study the rationality of primary school canteen function and area designdevelopment trend.The verification to index on primary and secondary school canteen area in "02standard" in this paper, not only point out the insufficiency of the current standard, andgive suggestions on the adjustment of the number of meals, public space function setand increasement of kichen area, but also make forward-looking thinking to buildingspace set and development trend of area design in current city primary school canteen,and provide some guiding opinions to actual project of primary school canteens.
