The electromagnetic relay, as one of the main low-voltage electrical control components, iswidely used in control and signal transmission system. The life of the relay often determines thereliability of a system, so it causes great attention. Testing is the primary means to study thereliability of relays, testing equipments for this purpose have become the key in the currentresearch. As an important indicator of the relay’s performance, the contact resistance is animportant parameter towards the life of the relay, Thus it has a great significance to study on testdevices for the detection of contact resistance which is based on the detection system of relay’selectrical life.With the development of science and technology, the computer, as the core application inthe the relay detection system in virtual instrument technology, shows its superiority, especiallythe detection systems constituted by data acquisition cards, have the features of great dataacquisition, processing capacity, cost-effective and stable performance. The signal isolationmodules in external detection circuit can enhance the performance and reliability of the system.This article describes the design of the detection system about the contact resistance of a newrelay’ contacts through hardware and software with the study of this technology.The detection system which is based on the computer, uses a data acquisition card andprovide a reliable basis for the study of contact resistance of the relay’s contacts through theactual testing. It plays an important role in the reliability design of the relay.
