The Exploration Between Square And Circular——for Chinese Ancient City And Architectural Form

Cities and architectures in ancient China are unique in the history of the world’s architecture. Because they have developed not only a model crawling on the ground, growing out of the ground and fusing the nature and environment, but the model penetrating cosmology into each building and the personal consciousness. That the continuity through5,000years is the foundation by which Chinese style based on the world.Nowadays, in domestic construction sector, the space that has been continued for5,000years becomes smaller and smaller, it has been conquered by the civilization of Western modernism. There have been the original and common characteristics in the East and in the West the human’s history, but different natural environments and different manners that people get along with each other have created a rich and varied culture on the Earth. Many countries are trying hard efforts to protect it. The continuity of long history should go on in China,. This paper is based on this, from the concepts of "square" and "round" in ancient, starting a point for the study of Chinese ancient cities and buildings, exploring changes in the form of that lasted thousands of years. In this work, several specific points as followed:First of all, it is origin of the "square" and "round" concepts. This will be done through a process of the introduction the elucidation to explain:1, origin:finding forms in architecture and painting art creation;2,undertake:design under the Western world view "square" and "round" concepts;3, pass:oriental cosmology and refining the process;4, seek peace:forms of symbiosis of two conceptsThrough this process, we will find something about forms of sense and the history and development of western architecture, then we will return to the historical course of China, to the Chinese today’s form aspects of the development of the situation, seek a shape by the two aspects. Analyzing and refining contents between two aspects,in order to achieve a continuous cues, we will eventually use this cue summation to make a new creation and achieve the new continuity of history.Secondly, through the analysis of a large number of instances in ancient China, from the cities to the official buildings,then to residential areas, we have a ideal for these cases to use square shape and its axis and center point in case-control analysis to establish a form and build files of ancient cities.Finally, summarizing the results of this study, proposing some new inspiration points.
