In the past ten years since Western development strategy being implemented, the five provinces in Northwest regions have witnessed an advanced society, a fast growing economy as well as a remarkable development in urban construction. As a link between large cities and small towns, middle and small-scale cities are regarded as an important carrier of spreading function. Meanwhile, in recent years the urban morphology structure is also changing fast and becoming more diverse as an evolutionary function of the space projection.Focused on the development situation and the morphological structure of middle and small-scale cities in Northwest China, this article analysizes the common characteristics and problems of morphological structure in the urban construction development, then it explores the dynamic mechanism, trying to find answers from facts and essence from problems. The next part deals with the urban morphological structure of several cities, analyzing the spatial accessibility and spatial density. On this basis, this paper classifies the urban structure type of the middle and small-scale cities in northwest region both from the macro level and the micro level. Besides it also discusses these morphological structure types in terms of distribution, the formation of a city and its internal features. At last, in line with the theoretical research and empirical study mentioned above, this article provides some development strategies and suggestions to optimize and modify the urban structure of medium and small cities in northwest.With the western development entering into an accelerated stage of development in 2010, China will adopted the strategy of industrialization, marketization, ecologicalization and upgrade the professional regional distribution, which will bring far-reaching influences on the morphological structure in the middle and small-scale cities in northwest region. The analysis of development of the urban structure types in small and medium-sized cities in northwest and a comprehensive understanding of the current situation could form the foundation for the further regional city planning and research. Moreover, it will help the city constructed in a proper urban structure to respond to the national macro-development strategies and establish a urban spatial development prospect in harmony. |
