In recent years, climate variability and geological disasters caused great losses to society and great inconvenience to human’s production and living. The territory of our country is covered by a variety of mountains, geological disasters are happened frequently in mountainous areas. Large disasters, which caused serious casualties and property loss*were concentrated in mountains or plateaus which is the more densely populated and has complex topography and various climate. Most traditional rural settlements have a long history, profound culture and honest customs, settlement patterns, architectural form and texture space settlements are needed urgent preserved. Due to sited in rural areas, people in these traditional rural settlements tend to ignore prevention for disasters. Geological disasters on the mountains have great threat to rural settlements. Mudslide, landslide, collapse and other disasters caused by large-scale and high rainfall often causes the entire village beyond recognition. How to save historical information from the geological disasters in the disaster-prone world nowadays is still an important issue. This article summarizes the suitable disaster prevention system to traditional rural settlements in mountains, improves the ability to withstand disasters in traditional rural settlements, makes disaster prevention and mitigation planning in rural settlements of traditional come true.This article is divided into4main parts. The first part analyzes the formation and evolution of traditional rural settlement, describes serious harm of traditional rural settlements caused by geological disasters. The second part describes the classification of natural disasters and geological disasters, defines the focus point of this article, combines layout features of traditional rural settlements, summarizes the main types and the cause of geological disasters in mountainous rural areas. The writer sorted out data compilation, summarized the status quo of contemporary domestic geological disaster prevention system. In the third part, the article compares with the outstanding geological disasters prevention measure in ancient China as a longitudinal contract, compares with disaster prevention experiences in disaster-prone countries and regions as a horizontal contrast, discovers the advantages and disadvantages of various countries and regions of geological disasters prevention system. In the forth part, combining with the outstanding domestic and foreign experience of geological disasters prevention, we should improve our disaster prevention and mitigation planning system, select the most effective and reasonable method of disaster prevention and disaster planning, sum up the most comprehensive geological disaster prevention system, which is suitable for the majority mountains of Chinese traditional settlements.The disaster prevention and mitigation of traditional rural mountain settlements is an urgent issue to be solved. Carrying out the comprehensive disaster prevention and mitigation system can regulate the work of the various departments for disaster prevention and mitigation, can effectively promote the national and local government departments into disaster prevention and mitigation work in traditional rural settlement areas, avoid duplication and waste into local resources in disaster prevention and mitigation village level. Integrating various departments of resources, establishing geological disaster prevention planning system and management system in traditional rural mountain settlements, making effective system against geological disasters in traditional rural mountain settlements, is the focus of this article needed to be addressed.
