Groundwater environmental capacity can be described as the maximum amount of somecontaminants within the aquifer under the conditions given in a certain period of time and acertain space. It is necessary to carry out the calculation and evaluation of groundwaterenvironmental capacity to provide a scientific basis for groundwater function, which can beuseful for the sustainable use of groundwater supplying security and groundwater resources.MCC MEILI PAPER INDUSTRY CO Ltd. is located in the city of Zhongwei that is innorth of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, upper reaching of the Yellow River and thewestern of the Weining plains. MCC MEILI PAPER INDUSTRY CO Ltd. combines pulping,paper and papermaking forest as its enterprising, which produces28million m3/a wastewater.The enterprise wastewater irrigated area is located in the desert north of the Yellow Riveralluvial plain, therefore, is close to area of urban water supply. The toxic compounds and saltsin the papermaking wastewater has an adverse impact on the continue function of the watersource and residents that are threatened with unsafe water. Hence, studying on thegroundwater environmental conditions and its capacity is extremely important to grasp thehydrogeological conditions and resource efficiently, which will promote the regionalsustainable development.Through collecting the data of field hydrogeology survey, hydrogeology drilling, field,laboratory test, sampling analysis, groundwater level and water quality monitoring and theorymodel calculation, the groundwater environmental conditions and the present condition of thegroundwater environment in the studied area are studied. The calculating model was utilizedin this research to calculate the environment capacity. The region is spited by100*100cm gridand calculated the environment capability of each cell in addition to drew the contour map. Atthe same time, the area can be divided into the Yellow River alluvial plain, Yellow Riverirrigated area, and the mixed water irrigated and also the various functional areas ofgroundwater environmental capacity are calculated respectively. The calculation results showthat the groundwater environmental capacity of the northern region of the study area is lessthan in the southern, indicating that more serious groundwater pollution in the northern region.The groundwater environmental capacity of mixed water irrigation area in the north wassmaller than the Yellow River irrigation area, shows that the groundwater pollution was moreserious in the mixed water irrigation area in the north. According to the calculation results,come forward pollutant emission limit value and the pollutants concentration control schemein order to guarantee the maximum benefit and the normal groundwater environment without destroying. Under the condition of waste water emissions for28million m3/a, thepermanganate index from sewage outfalls shall not be higher than23.52mg/l, ammonianitrogen shall not be higher than129.334mg/L, and CODCrshall not be higher than216.613mg/L.
