Terrain is the important factor of landscape spatial pattern. Especially in thelandscape of which human activities take advantage, terrain condition becomes thedeterminant of large scale landscape spatial pattern. But currently the quantitativestatistic against terrain information of Lanzhou city is not so much. Through usingCA-Markov model to simulate and research terrain change of the region’s land usespatial pattern can help us to understand landscape trends under the influence ofhuman society and to provide reference and support for the establishment of theregion’s land use plan and formulate of policy about land development and utilization. Then to provide basis for the landscape pattern optimization and then to makesustainable use of regional land resources come true. This article take Lanzhou city as the study area and based on digital elevationmodel to extract elevation and slope factor, then make a quantitative analysis ofterrain information. On this basis we analyzed relationship between terrain anddistribution characteristics of landscape spatial pattern. Then using Lanzhou city in1995and2002land use map as the basic data to access transition probability matrixof land use. On this basis we used CA-Markov model to simulate terrain change of theregion’s land use spatial pattern to research trends of landscape on the terrain.Studies have shown that:(1)residential and industrial land, traffic land andwaters are distributed mainly over lower and more gentle areas; forest land andgrassland are distributed mainly over higher and steeper areas.(2)The most rich oflandscape types in Lanzhou is in the elevation range less than1500metres and in theslope grade of2which has the greatest diversity; because of the human activities mostfrequently there are most complex patch shape and highest degree of fragmentationwithin the range between1500and2000metres and within the area of the slope gradeof3; there are plaques form a good connectivity and good integrity within the rangegreater than3500metres and on the slope grade of5.(3)There was a significant linearcorrelation between landscape pattern index and different elevation and slope and thehighest related coefficient is-0.921. Shannon’s Diversity Index and Shannon’s Evenness Index have the equal dependency relationship of which to be convinced thattopography make contribution to landscape pattern.(4) The most abundant landscapepattern change trend is in the range between1500and2000metres and in the area ofthe slope grade of1. Residential and industrial land has most diversity change trend inthe elevation and slope distribution and unused land has most diversity change trendin the slope distribution.
