The Scientific Research On White Potteries Unearthed Shenzhen Xiantouling Site

Xiantouling Site, in which unearthed amount of white potteries and colored potteriesin the New Stone Age, is one of the Top10Archaeology Discoveries in2006. The siteprovides abundant resources for research on culture archaeology of that period and it issignificant for research on prehistoric pottery archaeology in the Pearl River Delta. Inthis paper, the white potteries and colored potteries unearthed in Shenzhen XiantoulingSite are researched and multidisciplinary methodology is applied to analyze thecomposition, structure and physical properties of the potteries and to discuss thedevelopment laws and interrelationship between white pottery and colored pottery. In themeantime, the compositions and techniques of white potteries unearthed in XiantoulingSite and Gaomiao Site, which are Southern representatives in the early age, are discussedto reflect the technical features and influence.Chapter1and Chapter2introduces the development of Chinese white pottery andfocuses on the historical status, developing process and researching status domesticallyand internationally of Shenzhen Xiantouling Site. Meanwhile, the background, purposeand significance of this research are provided.In Chapter3, properties including chemical composition, microstructure, andphysical structure, sintering temperature and water absorption of the white pottery bodyare tested through EDXRF, XRD and SEM to explore the raw material formulations andtechnical features.Chapter4discusses the similarities and differences of raw material formulations andtechnical feature of the two potteries through comparing and analyzing the composition,structure and physical properties of the potteries unearthed in Gaomiao Site andXiantouling Site.Chapter5analyzes the chemical composition, physical structure and properties ofthe colored pottery unearthed in Shenzhen Xiantouling Site and discuss the compositionand technical features. Furthermore, the interrelationship between the white pottery andcolored pottery are explored.Chapter6provides a conclusion of the research.
