Geographic Information System(GIS), as an interdisciplinary subject based onmultidisciplinary and multitechnologies,its development benefited from thecomprehensive development of the discipline and technology.In pace with the rapiddevelopment of the computer,the earth science and the network informationtechnology, GIS has gradually developed from the Stand-alone mode to the networkGIS,and further develops to the direction of grid GIS, cloud GIS. The emergence ofthe Web service provided a technical supporting approach for the geographicinformation’s sharing and interoperation.The requirements of the data sharing andfunctional interoperability made it an inevitable trend for the GIS’ development basedon internet. The WebGIS, as an internet GIS,has greatly promoted the development ofGIS from its appearance.The article analysized the deficiency of the existing WebGIS system,based on this,investigated HTML5and Web Services’ application in WebGIS,then developed asystem model of lightweight, open WebGIS using the advantages of the threetechnologies,preliminary achieved the prototype system.According to the prototypesystem,the article build the WebGIS information system of land use to validate themodel system in the paper.Specific contents are as follows:(1) On the basis of in-depth analysis of HTML5, GIService and Ajax technology,combining with their respective advantages,the article developed a model system oflightweight,open WebGIS,and expounded its designing idea and functions,preliminary achieved the prototype system and then discussed the server’simplementation based on the open source software;(2) The paper investigated and discussed the client’s implementation of prototypesystem based on the HTML5, mainly discussed the vector map’s drawing andrendering of the client on the basis of the HTML5canvas.According to the datastructure of the point,pointline and polygon,the paper designed and realized the three symbols’drawwing and rendering based on the HTML5canvas, then stored in thetwo-dimensional symbol database for user’s visiting; Preliminary discussed the spatialdata’s storage of the client based on the HTML5Web Database storage mechanism;(3) The paper build the WebGIS information system of land use,described its buildbackground and process in detail,and implemented the relating functions to validatethe model system in the paper.Practice has proved that,the WebGIS system build by the article,its browserclient realized the vector map visualization and operation out of the supporting of thethird-party plug-ins to enrich the browser’s application;it’s of the typical openability,and achieved the data and function’s distributed layout, sharing andinteroperability;and it’s small, lightweight, simple easy to development. On thewhole,it has a certain theoretical and practical research value.
