After China’s accession to the WTO in2001, the shipping market and international freight forwarding market fully opened. Many large foreign shipping companies and international freight forwarding companies entered in China, and domestic medium-sized and small companies also engaged in international freight forwarding business. All of these intensified international freight forwarding market competition. The company S established in1995and engaged in international freight forwarding business, which has NVOCC business qualification. It has operated refrigerated container transportation in North America for many years, and once had stronger competitive advantage than similar companies in the market. But with the China’s accession to WTO and the development of international trade, it is losing its competitive advantage and facing the severe market competitive risk. Based on the detailed analysis of the company S’s external competition environment and internal advantages and disadvantages, by SWOT method, the paper puts forward the corresponding competitive strategy, in order to reduce enterprise’s competitive risk and promote enterprise’s development.This paper first introduces the research background and the significance of competitive strategy to enterprise development. Then it introduces conception of NVOCC and its operating model, and the differences between NVOCC and international freight forwarder, and third party logistics. And in the same time it summarizes the related conception of enterprise strategic management. By introducing the company S’s the establishment of background and organizational structure, and analyzing its business competitive environment and internal strength and weakness, and using SWOT analysis and elimination method, it puts forward the focused differentiation strategy fitting for the development of the company S and detailed implementation measures, to better its management mode, increase its income and improve its competitive advantage.Through the analysis and study of the company S’s competitive risk, this paper is aimed at making it fully realize its competitive risk, make sure its development objective, improve internal management level, and find a suitable competitive strategy. Finally its core competitiveness will be improved and it could maintain an impregnable position in the market. And also hopefully, this paper has some references for other small and medium-sized NVOCC and international freight forwarder making their competitive strategy.
