Project Management Methods In The Research And Development Of A Company Laptop Project Application

With increased market competition and faster product innovation, more and more enterprises have come to realize the importance of product research and development ability in enhancing their competitive advantages. However, a considerable amount of research and development projects did not hit the anticipated targets owing to failure of project management. As of how to reinforce project management, and improve reliability of product research and development, it has become a hot issue in the research on project management in both theory and practice.Based on literature review, current research on product research and development project management is focused on fundamental theory, including theoretical analysis and related impact on different approaches etc. In practice, some enterprises have not realized the importance of project management during the course of product development, and project management system is not installed in consideration of the actual environment. Therefore, application of project management approaches is of positive significance in both academic research and practical arena.The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the issue of A notebook computer company’s actual research and development project management, by means of modern project management, and proposes the solution at the same time. Research success can be considered a valuable source of help for future research and development projects.The thesis is compiled based on literature review and field investigation. A research study of research and development in A company is carried out, prior to reengineering their project organization, scheduling, and result appraisal. The following is a list of main scope of research in this thesis.(1) Through papers and journals on project management, a summary and analysis is formulated based on project management approaches currently applied in product research and development programs.(2) Based on research on current product research and development at A company, emphasis is put on analysis of application of project management in three fields, including project organization, project schedule, and project appraisal.(3) Re-engineering of project organization, project schedule, and project appraisal at A company can be implemented by adopting modern project management approaches. In summary, the thesis has contributed to the following research success:(1) On the project organizational structure of A company, reinforced matrix is configured, and Project Manager Position is installed.(2) Network planning technique is applied to budget schedule, and Dynamic Programming is adopted to control the project schedule at different stages.(3) Earned Value Management is applied to conduct the project appraisal, as well as an appraisal system to evaluate individual performance on a project.
