Empirical Research On Industrial Competitiveness Of Manufacturing Industry Of Pearl River Delta

When we came into1990s, with the fast development of trend of economy globalization and regional economy, the more and more intense competition among different countries, domestic and foreign scholars began to pay close attention to industrial competitiveness. Industrial competitiveness has become a key influencing factor to development of national or regional economy.The manufacturing industry of China has developed rapidly for more than thirty years since the implementation of reform, which has become an important part of national economy, export and employment. In these situations, it is necessary to study industrial competitiveness of manufacturing industry. But the development of manufacturing industry is very unbalanced:manufacturing industry of costal areas in eastern China has a high concentration and has gained great progress; manufacturing industry of Midwest develops slowly and disperses. Assets scale, economic benefits, market performance and industrial structure of manufacturing industry varies among different areas, so it is more pertinent and representative to evaluate industrial competitiveness of manufacturing industry.The Pearl River Delta has location advantage, labor advantage, policy advantage and marketization advantage, which has become an engine of our economy and important base of world manufacturing industry. So the study of status and influencing factors of industrial competitiveness of Pearl River Delta, which can provide scientific and reasonable evidence for improving industrial competitiveness, as well as significance to guide readjustment of our industrial structure. This thesis integrates qualitative and quantitative analysis method; firstly introduce current situation, industrial characteristics and major problems of manufacturing industry of Pearl River Delta. Secondly select three indicators RCA、MS and OLP to compare industrial competitiveness of Pearl River Delta with other provinces, also compare within internal industries, so as to learn about current situation and sickness of industrial competitiveness of Pearl River Delta. Finally use metrological model to study relation between influencing factors and competitiveness, and provides related suggestions to improve industrial competitiveness of Pearl River Delta. This article is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the research background of this article and research purposes, discusses the theoretical and practical significance to study competitiveness and influencing factors of manufacturing industry of Pearl River Delta, proposes the research framework and innovations.The second part introduces the research achievement of domestic and international research field from four perspectives of industrial competitiveness.The third part analyzes and evaluates the current situation of manufacturing industries of Pearl River Delta, industrial characteristic and problems appearing in the process of development of manufacturing industry.The fourth part is the comparison and analysis of competitiveness of manufacturing industrial of Pearl River Delta, choosing three indicators revealed comparative advantage index (RCA), domestic market share (MS) and overall labor productivity (OLP) to compare with advanced provinces also within internal every industry, so as to learn about status of competiveness of Pearl River Delta.The fifth part is the empirical research on influencing factors. Firstly qualitatively analyzes influencing factors of industrial competitiveness of manufacturing industry, then use factor analysis method to find key influencing factors of industrial competiveness of manufacturing industry. Finally establish the empirical model to analyze how the influencing factors affect the competiveness of manufacturing industry of Pearl River Delta.The sixth section proposes the corresponding policy recommendations to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturing industry of Pearl River Delta, basing on the previous analysis. We suggest vigorously develop new and high technology industry and ability of self-innovation; increase investment of fixed assets and productivity of industry; develop large enterprise groups and enhance overall competitiveness of manufacturing industry of Pearl River Delta; realize the grads transfer of industries and balanced development among different regions.
