| This paper tries to apply project schedule management theory to the specific project. The paper analyzes and researches on the schedule of ethylene plant maintenance project of S corporation comprehensively with theories and methods about activity analysis, schedule plan, schedule optimization and schedule control, makes the project complete successfully in the planned duration, realizes the project goal of optimal duration and maximal economic benefits.The paper firstly describes the practical significance of researching on the schedule plan and control of the project, secondly introduces and reviews relevant theories about project schedule and control, thirdly gives a specific analysis of the ethylene production plant maintenance project, including project objectives, project organizational structure, project work breakdown structure, project activity definition, project activity sequencing, project activity duration estimation, project resource requirements estimation, and so on. Then the paper formulates the project milestone plan by the results of the analysis of project activity, achieves Gantt chart plan and network diagram plan with Microsoft Project, and analyzes the critical path at the same time. After that the paper uses methods of duration optimizing to cut down the duration of the critical path, gets the optimized scheme and draws up optimal project schedule, including milestone plan, Gantt chart, network diagram and so on. Finally the paper controls the schedule effectively through a series of process of tracking the schedule dynamically, monitoring actual schedule against project schedule, analyzing the deviation and adjusting the schedule in project implementation, makes the project complete successfully in accordance with the planned duration.Schedule management, as one of the "iron triangle" in project management, is an important indicator of project management level. While many projects are delayed today, it has more important practical significance to complete the project punctually by planning and controlling the schedule. Researching on the project schedule can reduce duration and help enterprises accumulate experience in project management.
