With the fast speed of globalization in economy, competition between enterprises has become fierce. Enterprises have paid close attention to the issue of core competence and have taken it as the power and source of sustainable competitiveness and put it in the strategic position. As an important component of tourism industry and a typical representation in tourism enterprises, travel agency has its own nature and typical products, though as one of the service-oriented industry, the theory of core competence based on the the manufacturing industry can not be borrowed and applied directly to the travel agency. So research on the cultivation of core competence of travel agency has become a very necessary issue.Due to abundant tourism resources, Anhui tourism industry has growled rapidly with its economy. More travel agencies were set up, and have gradually developed into a big scale. Yet the poor management level, weak comprehensive strength and lack of core competence have put travel agencies in inferior position and hindered the further progress of tourism economy in Anhui. This paper aims to apply the basic theories of core competence to the travel agency, to analysis its definition and component elements, to analyses the current problems, and to offer some practical suggestions. Hope the study of the theory can offer some practical assistance for the cultivation and enhancement of core competence of travel agencies in Anhui.Firstly, the paper gives summary on the general views of the enterprise core competence in domestic and foreign academic circles. Through relevant documents on its fundamental theories, the paper tires to give definition on the core competence of travel agency. The paper analyses the current situation of travel agencies in Anhui Province, and to find out reasons for causing the problems. Lastly, this paper offers strategic countermeasures to build up the core competence for travel agencies in Anhui Province.
