Women’s Road founded on May16,1940, closed in February16,1947as the Xinhua Daily supplement. It was the important instrument of public opinion to direct the women’s movement in Kuomintang-controlled areas, leaded by the Southern Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party. Women’s Road existed during the time of Anti-Japanese War and the pre-Liberation War, and Chinese women’s movement into the whirlpool of a wave of nationalism and political reforms. Based on this background, this paper explored Women’s road how to influence and promote the development of the women’s movement in the Kuomintang-controlled areas. The paper was divided into four parts. The first chapter mainly elaborated the founding background and the specific situation of the Women’s road. After the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War, the women policy of the Communist Party of China was from the democratic revolution to the national liberation. The Southern Bureau of Committee for Women urgently needed a publication when it directed women’s movement in Kuomintang-controlled areas. Meanwhile, the Communist Party and the Kuomintang was infighting for the leaderships of the women’s movement. In this context, Women’s Road was born. The chapter also discussed the members of the editorial department and main authors of Women’s Road. Meanwhile, the chapter introduced the main content and column setup. Women’s Road was a content-rich, familiar to the masses and instructional women publication. The second chapter analyzed the Women’s Road during the Anti-Japanese War. In the context of nationalism, Women’s Road fought for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. It pointed out that women’s liberation must be based on the national liberation, and called on women compatriots to support the front-line. Meanwhile, Women’s Road also paid lots of attention to protect the vital interests of women. To protect the vital interests of women and war mobilization were complementary. Nationalism broadened women’s discourse space and activity space, Women’s Road taken this opportunity to actively build the women’s social role. The third chapter mainly analyzed the Women’s Road in the political strife of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Since1944, Women’s Road began to fight for democracy as the center of the struggle, and pointed out that democracy was the correct way to achieve the total liberation. After the victory of Anti-Japanese, the contradiction between the Communist Party and Kuomintang had been more and more serious, and the women’s movement went into the whirlpool of the political strife. During this period, Women’s Road was actively leading the democracy movement to against the civil war in the Kuomintang-controlled areas. The forth party thought that it was difficult for feminism movement that was under the national discourse to profoundly criticize the patriarchal thoughts, because men and women had formed an alliance in virtually. When there were conflicts with the feminist and the male, under the overall interests of nation, Women’s Road would regulate the contradiction and tried to avoid gender struggles. After the Anti-Japanese War, Women’s Road showed a strong political party colors, because elaborate agenda-setting and layout arrangement showed that the feminist gave way to the party struggles. To some extent, the feminist movement had become a tool for Women’s Road to participate the political struggle.Epilogue concluded:the women’s movement into a national liberation and political disputes carried more responsibility and mission, and couldn’t simply fight for the women’s right. Mass media could contribute to promote the development of the women’s movement, but it was always restricted by its own attributes. Today, the inequality between men and women still exists, and it has certain practical significance for women journals to research Women’s Road how to direct the women’s movement.
