The drilling mud pump is the key equipment in the oil drilling and production process.With the development of science and technology and the progress of the society, theproperties of drilling mud pump are becoming more and more strictly required, thedevelopment and improvement of fault diagnosis technology for the drilling mud pumpbecomes particularly important. The traditional fault diagnosis methods of drilling mud pumpinclude vibration signal analysis method, simply observation method, parameter testingmethod, metal medium analysis method and indicator diagram method, and so on. Whilethese methods lack of system-level characteristic, so that the accuracy of diagnostic resultcannot be ensured. A fault diagnosis method for drilling mud pump based on vibrationtransfer path analysis is proposed in this paper, in which the fault mechanism analysis anddiagnosis model of drilling mud pump from the system level is established combining withthe vibration signal analysis method, then the shortcoming of traditional method which isbased on the partly testing information is overcome. Based on the analysis and study ofexisting drilling mud pump fault diagnosis research, in-depth study on vibration transfer pathanalysis method on the fault diagnosis of drilling mud pump is carried out, the main workconcludes laboratory fault simulation test-bed and field drilling mud pump research. Thefeasibility and practical validity of drilling mud pump fault diagnosis based on vibrationtransfer path analysis method are finally testified. The research is launched as follows:Firstly, based on the in-depth study of vibration transfer path analysis method, emphasisis taken on the research of typical fault transfer path analysis of drilling mud pump. Usingrotary machinery fault simulation test-bed for typical faults simulation test, the test programfor vibration transfer path model is designed to verify the feasibility of vibration transfer pathanalysis method in the fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment.Secondly, further analysis of typical failure mechanism by using the DWB-60drillingmud pump model is carried out to achieve the typical fault characteristics, which can be set asthe basis for analyzing the vibration fault diagnosis of drilling mud pump.Finally, taking a3NB-1300C-type drilling mud pump unit of Bohai Drilling EngineeringCorporation as the object, the research of drilling mud pump fault diagnosis based onvibration transfer path analysis is launched. Vibration transfer path analysis model isestablished firstly according to the measuring point location model, the testing data isobtained and analyzed. The diagnosis result is achieved referring to the drilling mud pumpfault mechanism research conclusion, and the field survey result verifies the feasibility andvalidity of mud pump fault diagnosis research based on vibration transfer path analysis.The total research of this paper proves the effectiveness of drilling mud pump faultdiagnosis based on vibration transfer path analysis method which may provide a new train forthe study of other reciprocating machinery fault diagnosis methods.
