The study of frontier became a important topic among Chinese scholars because of frequent frontier troubles in Modern China. It climaxed again around1930s—1940s as its precedent in the late Ch’ing Dynasty. The Chinese Frontier Society formed at that time. This paper focuses on the academic activities and their aspects of the Chinese Frontier Society besides the making and organization of the society. The Chinese Frontier Society was based on Yulin, Chengdu, and Chongqing Frontier Society and headquartered in Chongqing, which was moved to Nanjing later, with branches in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Yunnan, Chahar, Gansu and so on. The society’s Chinese Frontier monthly which was founded by the Federation, established in the form of a part of many to preserve the frontier informationin the form of the establishment of the part of many to preserve the frontier information,in terms of content-rich frontier theory, made a number of important frontier policy, but also has a strong official colors.Society edited four books in addition to contribute to toast research has also focused on the field survey, questioning the former point of view, correct fallacy.Branch in frontier research also contributed to Sichuan and Shaanxi branch of a lot of activities.Compare to Yu Gong Society, the Chinese Frontier Society is similarly to it in the composition, purpose, books and contents. There are three characteristics:a strong practical care, especially through practical investigation. The Society did not treated the frontier as a special issue without the whole national consideration. Its views agreed with the government’s policies and theories on this issue. However, the society had a Hancentric perspective:discriminated minor nations, regarded the frontier as backward areas that opposed to the developed inland. This perspective obstructed the understanding between Han and minor nations as well as the inland and the frontier.By studying the Society, we can understand the second research climax:his climax highlighted professional publications, organization, and multidiscipline.Scholars served the frontier and the state under the condition that academic concern and politics entangled in crisis. The views of the scholars in the Society are also conducive for us to solve the current problems.
