Identification And Convergence Measurement Of Frontier Technology Topics

With the rapid development of emerging fields and convergence among technologies,it becomes increasingly significant to strengthen the exploration and forward-looking management of frontier technologies.How to identify frontier technology topics and measure their convergence has become an important issue in exploring the development path of frontier technology and understanding technology prospects.Using the patent as clues,this paper innovatively introduces the structural hole theory to identify the frontier technology topics based on the text mining technology.Moreover,the diversity of convergence of frontier technology topics from the novel perspective of the technology category of cited patents.Thus,this paper conducts an empirical study with emerging field big data as an example.This study consists of two parts: First,to address the shortcomings of existing frontier technology topic identification methods,this paper proposes a conceptual model for identifying frontier technology topics based on the Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)topic model of text mining,combined with structural hole theory and corresponding indicators.Secondly,for the identified frontier technology topics,this paper compares the two convergence measurement methods: the co-classification based on the technology category of target patent and the technology category of cited patents.And this paper explores the degree of convergence by measuring the diversity of frontier technology topics.Taking the field of big data as an example,the study finds that: there are 10 frontier technology topics in big data,involving algorithms,storage,infrastructure construction and data industry.There are slight differences in the layout of frontier technology topics in mainly countries,among which China has achieved significant results in advancing frontier technologies.The method based on the technology category of the cited patents can capture more patents related to frontier technology topics,and better measure the convergence of frontier technology topics.The convergence of frontier technology topics reveals the great innovative value and potential of applying big data technology into infrastructure construction,data industry,and cloud computing.The identification and measurement methods of frontier technology topics proposed in this study can provide references to related studies.The results of the study with the field of big data are instructive to strategic deployment and decision making of related organizations or enterprises in big data.
