The New Alumni Resource Management System Design And Implementation Based On WebGIS

Since the end of last century, along with the continuous development of theinternet, the use of it has also been spread widely, approaching to common people. Atthe meantime, universities in our country are walking into the digital information age.For universities, Alumni resources are not only precious wealth, but also an essentialpart of education and social resources, they even are valuable references for universityto develop, reform and innovate. In this age when network becoming mature andpopularizing every day, how to build up a fully functional system (called alumniresources management&service system) to manage and serve for alumni has been aproblem that waits for solving.At first, this article analyses the current situation of alumni resources researchboth in our country and abroad, then compares the alumni resources management&service systems that are used by universities at home. Using alumni resourcesmanagement&service system at home and abroad for reference, this article improvesand updates the function by using the latest technology. Through research on WebGISand AJAX, this article puts forward a new alumni resources management&servicesystem based on WebGIS. In succession, it makes detailed analysis of the demand andfeasibility and based on it, this article designs a database model for the system, alsoexplains its architecture and related technologies.This system is divided into foreground system and background system, becauseof which the interface becomes friendlier that can offer better using experience forusers. Besides the existing functions of alumni inquiring, news release, alumnidonation and message leaving, this article also comes up with function of alumnidistributing (it shows how alumni distribute around the country and how theirinformation updates) and alumni inquiring based on WebGIS which tells alumni’sinformation, activity information and their regional distribution intuitively andvividly. In the end, this article summarizes the experience and lessons we can take in theprocess of system design and implementation, also it summarizes the deficiencies thatthe system have and look forward to the extensible function.
