A Study On The Service Of Archival Information Under The Networked Environment

The Internet has already become an indispensable part of people’s daily life in the current society. People are accustomed to and familiar with procuring information through the Internet, which is now the best way favoured to get information by virtue of its various advantages, that is, being convenient, quick, comprehensive and free. There are, in a broader sense, many kinds of information and archives are a kind of important information resource. With the development of government information publicity in China, the archives which were in the past kept away and out of reach have now become common information resource that can be examined and used, bringing more convenience to people. The online environment not only makes the use of the archival information more convenient, but also provides new opportunities for the innovation and development of archival information service. Therefore, the study of the situation of online archival information service is beneficial to further developing the information service for archival institutions in our country and to providing reference materials for innovating the service means and ideas, while well meeting the more and more multiple demands for archival information of general people and setting the stage for the creation of information society in China. At present, archival service institutions at different levels in our country all take advanced technology and means to improve the methods and environment of traditional archival information service and, as a result, the efficiency and quality of archival information service are improved, meeting to some degree the social demands for archival information. However, there still exists many technical and artificial problems in terms of safety and operability due to the changeability of online environment. On the basis of summarising the current situation of online archival information service in our country, this thesis points out the problems which exist while achievements have been made. Then it analyses the necessity and favourable conditions of the development and innovation of online archival information service according to the actual situation of our country and tries further discussing the development methods and tendencies of information service from the perspective of various factors of online archival information service. Finally some problems of online archival information service in our country that need noticing are elaborated. This thesis are divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, which includes the research background, purpose,meaning and the current research situation at home and abroad as well as the research content, methods, thoughts and the innovations made by this thesis.The second part mainly summarises the characteristics of the online archival information service under new conditions, which follows its comparison with the traditional archival information service, and then puts a emphasis on the introduction of the current situation and major problems of online archival information service in our country.The third part analyses the necessity and favourable conditions of online archival information service, which mainly includes that the development and innovation of archival information service is the meaning of the government information publicity of our country in an information society, is the inherent requirement to meed the multiple and personal information demands of archive users and is the effective way for the archive department to improve its level of service and innovate the service methods. The convenient online environment in the archives, the rich archival information resource and the professionals of hight quality and diversity all create favourable conditions for innovating the archival information service.The fourth part mainly expounds the innovation of archival information service in terms of its four factors, that is, the ideas, technologies,contents and modes of service.The fifth part clarifies the issues that concerns the online archival information service, which is mainly about the well handling of the relation between the online archival information service and the safety of archival information as well as that between the provision and demand of online archival information.Online archival information service is the starting and standing point of archive work. With the constant development of the Internet technology, the constant improvement of relevant laws and regulations in our country and the pervasion of access to the Internet, in the future archival information service work, the archival information service department should broaden its service thoughts, update its methods and means of service and innovate the current service modes in order to provide more convenient and more efficient service for numerous information users.
