At present China is transforming to market economy where the competition is increasingly intensified. Many newspaper media attract more readers and expand its influence by enlarging and concentrating on newspaper content, resulting in thickening the newspaper. Therefore, widening and optimizing news information resources becomes the priority worth the attention of all the media in post-thick-newspaper time. There exist many approaches to news information resources development, among which publish lecture is one of the best.Public lectures started in mid1990s. Now more and more large and medium-sized, even small cities, are organizing their own culture public lectures. With the development of various categories of public lectures, more media realize it is a crucial method of widening news resources. By organizing lectures, media could not only extend and create news resources, build brand of culture transmission and strengthen influence on interaction with audience, but also help to create a sound atmosphere for the socialist cultural and ethical progress in China, fulfill citizens’ spiritual and cultural needs and improve the overall cultural accomplishments.Xin’an People Lecture, with a history of almost seven years, is one of the earliest lecture halls in China and has already found its own characteristics through all these years. The author investigates this Xin’an People Lecture, so that some helpful advice can be offered for organizing public lectures and practical advice for digging out news resources as well.For better exploration of the road to lecture organization, finding the features and deficiencies of Xin’an People Lecture, the author compares it with another public lecture of a different province---Lingnan Public Lecture. It is a non-profit social forum with multilevel and high taste, sponsored by Guangdong Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department and Provincial Federal of Social Science, and organized by Nanfang Daily, Guangdong Lingnan Relic and Museum Institute and Sun Yat-sen Library of Guangdong Province. In terms of category, both are live lectures jointly run by libraries and media; from time perspective, they started in2006 and by the end of2005respectively, almost built at the same time. In view of its organizers and funds, both are sponsored by paper media and libraries and aim at common people. Therefore, the author selects Lingnan Public Lecture for comparison.This paper includes four parts:The first part is an introduction, including research meaning of the subject, research situation, research method and relevant research concepts. For research meaning, this paper states from three aspects:needs of broad masses, summons of the Party and the nation and request from media themselves. This paper has mainly adopted the methods of literature, survey, content analysis. On relevant concepts elaboration, this paper emphasizes the concept of news resources, background, development and category of public lecture, and the development of Xin’an People Lecture and Lingnan Public Lecture.The second part mainly introduces the features of Xin’an People Lecture, which is summarized from the preparation of pre-lecture, sound presentation of lecture content and interaction in the live lecture.Part Three focuses on the comparison study. Firstly, the author sorts out the current situation of Xin’an People Lecture, followed by a comparison between two Xin’an People Lectures held in2006and in2012to explore its development tendency. Then the author discusses how to well organize public lectures.Part Four offers some suggestions on public lecture organization. Based on the analysis of Xin’an People Lecture’s development in vertical and field observation, the author givse several advice for organizing public lectures.
