Micro-blog On Public Domain Restructure

It’s universally acknowledged that microblog is a revolutionary innovation, for that it is not only a new integration and development of media resources, but also a change to interpersonal relationship and the way of information dissemination. Public discourse has been unprecedentedly released for its unique fission spread. However, what’s microblog’s revolutionary innovation? This paper focuses on the definition of microblog and its transmission characteristics from the perspective of communication.Judgment of media’s central position in the public domain has been proposed by Habermas. Every media change drives the discussion of public sphere theory and research forward, and public domain transforms and restructures with the repeatedly impact of media development. With the Infiltration of market rule, traditional media’s public domain function has been continuously eroded, public domain structure tends to transform and decay, which are referred to as "refeudal" of public domain in the eyes of Habermas. Besides, emerging media is beginning to impact and reconstruce the traditional public domain. Since Twitter was born in2006, microblog has overshadowed any kind of media. Low barriers to entry, unprecedented freedom of right of speech, and strong interactivity, these characteristics make microblog more accord with the requirement of Habermas’"ideal public sphere" than any other kind of media.There is a controversy that whether there is a public sphere in China in academia. Negative views of scholars believe traditional pattern of "Chinese’s strong country-weak society" makes the political separation of state and society becomes impossible, while the positive believe that it’s feasible "public domain" theory has existed in China, for schools, newspapers, Internet and other public space has been growing up with the development of modern society. Therefore, I support the positive views. In these two years, Microblogs Combat Child-trafficking, Free Lunch for Children, and Guo Meimei Scandal show that microblog has been becoming the core platform of Chinese public opinion. Thus public discourse space based on microblog is more fit the ideal model of the public domain. Consequently This thesis thinks that public domain of microblog has been becoming clearer. The so-called microblog public domain refers to the mode of a social life, which takes microblog as the main platform, subjects to public issues, and be equipped with the basic functions of classic public domain, conforming to its mode and principle of operation.The core part of this paper studies from the relations of media and public domain, combining public sphere theory, and analyses microblog’s function to the reconstruction of the public domain and its characteristics and operation mechanism, Eventually find out the possible problems, try to provide some useful suggestions to the restructure of the public sphere.
