To improve the documents’processing efficiency of information systems and reduce the error rate of paper documents among different enterprises, many of them begin to use EDI technology. However, the EDI technology hasn’t been widely used and promoted deriving from expensive cost of software and hardware, closed communication network limitations, etc.In this paper, we study a new generation of data exchange system based on Internet, and among which is the most significant XML-based EDI technology. It was short for XML/EDI. The research objective is to design a set of electronic data interchange system prototype, so as to support exchanging information and sharing data between partners in small and medium-sized logistics enterprises. The paper includes the following content:1. Through the comparative analysis of the traditional EDI business processing model and data exchange model, it designs a systematic business and data flow process so as to simplify the business process and for the sake of users’convenience.2. In order to design the system’s overall structure, it uses standard modeling language UML for system modeling analysis and analyses the module’s using cases function and the relations between static structures of main entities,3. It analyzes and designs technology relevant to data conversion methods, mainly including the message type conversion, data element conversion, data element code conversion and XML data format conversion. Through the data format conversion, it realizes data conversion between system source user documents with target user documents packet.4. Design system interface, and verify the feasibility of the system through the case analysis.In conclusion, XML/EDI system prototype not only can realize the information interactive between small and medium-sized logistics enterprises, it can also realize the paperless office. It has certain reference value for small and medium-sized logistics enterprise’s document processing efficiency and the improvement of e-commerce.
