With the development of society and the progress of science and technology, human ask for a higher and higher quality of life. Smart home is designed to meeting people need on the convenience of life, the comfort and security of living environment as well as a colorful life. The main purpose to study and design smart home system in this paper is building a comfortable and convenient living environment, which is low-cost, feature-rich, easy to operate, scalability, energy saving and little pollution.By using modular design ways, the system is divided into four modules. Those are main modular, communication modular running ZigBee communication protocols, appliance control modular using infrared and curtain control modular based on movement recognition. The idea of modular design is make every modular low coupling and high cohesion, which is play a role on making modular function and structure clearer. As the control center of the whole system, the main modular, running Windows CE5.0OS, achieve the function that store infrared encoder for appliance control, acquisition image data for movement recognition, communicate with computer by UDP or serial port and so on. Besides, the touch screen of main modular provides a visual and easy interface between person and machine. The ZigBee module using CC2530chip is the bridge of communication between the modules of the entire system, implement wireless serial communication. ZigBee communication as a safe, environmentally friendly means of communication is very suitable for use in the smart home because the communication distance is longer, the capacity of network is larger, and the ability of anti-interference is stranger than Bluetooth and nRF. The appliance control module achieve appliance remotely control on common household appliance without any change of appliances. The infrared probe on appliance control module is used to capture infrared code sent by original remote. After capturing, the corresponding encode data is saving into main module. When the appliances need to be controlled, the infrared emitting diode launch out the code and control will be achieved. Automatic curtain control system based on movement recognition is work by analyzing the action of the person at the front of the camera. The main control sign is get from hand shake. So by shake hand, the curtain will be open or close. This movement recognition will get rich used in smart home, like entertainment system, by using more sophisticated camera and improving the accuracy of control algorithm.Smart home as a part of internet of things, will get great development in the coming decades. The studying of smart home has a very important significance, and can get good value.
