A User-Experience-Based Designing Study On Radar Console Interface

The major responsibility of air traffic control is to prevent the air collision, ensuring the safe taking off, navigation and landing of aircrafts. At present, China’s first-line controlling equipments are imported from the abroad, while the works done domestically are replicating the real traffic controlling systems and equipments to do pre-service simulation training for air traffic controllers. In view of this situation, this paper attempts to do an original designing research on the radar console interface in the air traffic controlling system.Prioritizing the users, the User Experience (UE) Design is a combination of a variety of designing concepts and methods. Based on the designing concept of the UE, this paper built up the processes and methods of the radar console interface user experience design. Through the analysis of the target population and experience experiments, digging the needs of users, we proposed our designing plan according to the needs of users.The contents of this paper are as follows:Firstly, we studied the concept and content of the UE and UE design, proposed the trends of UE design. Then we expounded the air traffic controlling radar system, the function of its constituents and its using processes. From the point of view of product functions and user experience, we analyzed the domestic simulating console interface and the designing status-quo of foreign console interface. We proposed and constructed the processes and methods of the formation of the user-experience-based radar console interface; and then through the field experience and analysis of the target users’ characteristics, work environment, requirements, and the products psychology and behavior, we came up with more valuable user demands after interviews with expert users. Finally, we summarized users’needs. Through the establishment of the user role model, we classified the user demands according to their priority levels:then we redesigned the framework and proposed a solution based on the designing framework.his paper systematically proposed and analyzed the concepts, processes, and methods of user-experience-based radar console interface design, expanding the contents of user experience designing. Thus we came up with new ideas for traditional industrial product design. The proposed processes and methods of user-experience-based radar console interface can be used as the guiding ideology and methods of other air traffic control equipment design.
