The distributed fiber optical sensing system was proposed in the1970s and was developed fast. It measures the change of the physical quantity in the sensing environment and achieves a wide range of the distributed real-time measurement with the nonlinear effect of the optical fiber. By now, very few mature distributed fiber optical sensing systems have appeared on the market. Study of distributed fiber optical sensing system is valuable in the economic and technical aspects.The operating principle of distributed fiber optical sensing systems, system framework and system modules related to this paper were introduced briefly. This work was to study the control system design of distributed fiber optical sensor. The sensing system transmitted control commands via the serial port. The slave CPU parsed the commands and controlled the laser transmitter module, EDFA module, optical switch, temperature IC and digital potentiometer. An alarm indicator was also designed to indicate the state of the system. An EDFA module was also designed in this paper, which included the software to control the working mode and EDFA power, pump current driver. The experiment results demonstrated that the EDFA could output optical pulses with4.8W peak power and760ps rising time.
