In the information age, data services develop rapidly, and our demand for them increases sharply. UMTS networks are able to meet this demand. Compared to GPRS network, its data transfer rate has been greatly improved. As an important network element in UMTS core network packet domain, SGSN is not only responsible for mobility management and authentication of the UE, but also can encrypt the message in to ensure the safety of the user communication.In addition, SGSN can also use tunneling technology to route and forward packets.Therefore, SGSN has an important role in the UMTS network.This paper is mainly dedicated to the design and implementation of SGSN simulator in UMTS network. First, it briefly describes the UMTS network architecture, protocols and UMTS simulation dial test systems. Then, it highlights the SGSN layers agreement signaling process and gives the overall design of the SGSN simulator. After that, it detailed the design and implementation of SGSN simulator submodule. Finally, the designed SGSN simulator was tested.SGSN simulator related protocols mainly includes the protocol of the control plane protocol and the data plane protocol, the control plane protocol comprises GMM/SM, RANAP, SCCP, M3UA, of an SCTP and GTP-C protocol, the data plane protocol is GTP-U protocol.In the part of the overall design, this paper first studies the protocol function and signaling processes of SGSN simulator, then gives the demand analysis of SGSN simulator, after that, a detailed description of each layer protocol functions and signaling processes is given. Finally, it gives the design environment and the overall design of the system architecture and the design between the different module interfaces.In the part of the design and realization of sub-module, this paper first gives the overall design of each module, and then designs a state machine and signaling message processing flow chart of the process, and the design of the interface between the layers of the module. Finally, in the implementation section, according to the theory of design, this paper implements each module.In test part, the paper tests the SGSN simulator, mainly including the unit testing phase of each module, a module joint integration testing phase, and the final system testing phase. The test results showed that the design and implementation of this simulator is able to complete the basic functions of the SGSN network element, and this simulator has good stability.At last, the paper summarizes the contents and points the next step work.
