With the development of China’s GSM network, the size of the network becomes larger and larger, at the same time, the customers’ requirements on the quality of network services increase continuously. Therefore, how to maximize the optimization of the network resources and improve the network performance is an important problem that cannot be ignored in the development of GSM network. Network optimization works constantly adjust the allocation of the resources in the network to improve the service level of network, thereby enabling the network to provide the best user experience. From the perspective of the development of mobile operators such as China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, network optimization can enhance their competitiveness in the market and enable them to maintain stable development.Coverage and interference are two important factors that affect the quality of network service, therefore, coverage and interference analysis and optimal adjustment is the critical work in the network optimization. This paper studied several coverage and interference analysis technologies, there are calculation of cells’ coverage models, interference-simulation of new cells, pre-assessment of antenna adjustment, tilt verification and correlation analysis.Calculation of cells’ coverage models uses the NCS and MRR data to calculate the cells’ path loss model in different directions and then to calculate the cells’ coverage which can help the network optimization staffs analyze the signal distribution of the cells. Interference-simulation of new cells simulates the new cells’coverage models by using the original cells’coverage models which are calculated before, and then calculate the interference matrix between the new cells and original cells. Pre-assessment of antenna adjustment uses the cells’parameters before and after the adjustment to assess the change of the cells’coverage. Tilt verification uses the cells’parameters and coverage models to calculate the actual coverage radius and the theoretical coverage radius, and then to evaluate the deviation of the antenna tilt. Finally, correlation analysis which is based on a build-in analysis model measures the cells’ interference by analyzing the correlation between cells.By using C#Language, SQL SERVER Database and MapXtreme, a coverage and interference analysis system for GSM network is developed.The technologies and system mentioned above have been used in the network of Guangzhou, and the application results indicate that the technologies and methods are efficient.
