Objectively and fairly evaluating scientists has become more and more important for different kinds of groups, departments or institutes. For scientist and researchers, individual scientific evaluation decides many aspects of their career, such as grand allocation, researcher recruiting, and rewarding. All these activities are involved the evaluation of scientists. So this research of scientometrics has been a heated topic.In the past, simple indicators were used to evaluate scientists, such as the total number of publications, average number of citations per publication or impact of papers. However, with the increasing volume of data, these numbers seem no more fair and robust. With the development of the computer technology, large volume of data computing becomes possible. On the basis of this, Jorge Hirsh in2005proposed a new evaluation indicator for scientists or researchers, named h-index. Although this index has only been proposed for only8years, but now it is an important index for numerous activities, rewarding, and organization. Also academic websites use the h-index as a measure of the reference to measure the achievements of scholars, or as an important index of filtration of scholars.But for most of the assessment users, they do not know well about these indicators and parameters, and are not very knowledgeable about this domain. They only know the general information. When they want to choose appropriate indicators as evaluation criteria, they will have to learn all indicators. However it contains a lot of formulas, it is difficult to grasp of all the indices in a short period of time, so the assessment or evaluation will spend a lot of time which presents a considerable challenge for evaluators.Based on this, we want to use visualized way to display h-type indicators in the histogram, which is used to geometric illustration to represent them. So we study on h-index and a series of its variants, and successfully display them in the histogram. On this basis, we introduce a further study on the distribution of scholars, and then divide the scientists into different groups and present a guideline for selection of evaluation indicators. Through the experiments, we found that this guideline has significance for the selection of indicators.
