The emergence of laser promote the development of acousto-optic, and makes theacousto-optic technology become a rapidly developing new technology. AOM is based on theprinciples of ultrasonic light diffraction, and its advantage is that high modulation speed, highdiffraction efficiency, large extinction ratio and small size, so the AOM is widely used in lasercommunication, laser measurement and optical fiber sensor and so on. The key part of theAOM system is the drive source. But now, people usually use a general-purpose signalgenerator as the drive source and that will cause a lot of problems. So, it’s very important todesign of a dedicated drive source for a particular AOM.This paper is based on the PbMoO4AOM. First of all, the paper introduced the basictheory of the acousto-optic modulator and the PbMoO4AOM’s structure and parameters.Then, the paper analyzes the driving source circuit’s working principle and designrequirements, also, is proposed the design of the driving circuit. On the basis of the design, itmakes the signal generating circuit, the intermediate amplifying circuit, the output matchingnetwork and the power amplification circuit, and combined with each part of the circuitfinished the acousto-optical modulator driver source. The experimental result shows that thedriving source system is working properly and reached the specifications of the circuit design.At last, it completed the acousto-optic communication experiment by the acousto-opticmodulator driver source and AOM experiment system, and also study of the experimentalresults.
