In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), the information of location is the most important matter indata collection. The monitoring without any information of location is meaningless and useless. Therefore, getting the effective location information of the node is one of the key technology ofsensor network. It plays a key role in the effective application of sensor network.Firstly, this thesis introduces the diversity positioning system of WSN: the source nodelocalization algorithm, the node by node localization algorithm and the map matching algorithm, and respectively introduces several typical algorithms of every kind of algorithm. The thesisanalyzes the advantages/disadvantages and application field of them, then focuses on the research ofMDS-MAP localization algorithmn which is based on multidimensional scale analysis technique.MDS-MAP s lower limit on the quantity and position of anchor nodes is very important for WSNwhich puts the requirements of low power consumption and low cost as the first. MDS-MAPalgorithm can make full use of the Connection information, and even if calculates the relativecoordinates of the node according to the actual or estimated distance between nodes without anyanchor node.According to the centralized faults of MDS-MAP localization algorithm, this thesis proposed animproved localization algorithm. The improved algorithm uses the distributed processing technologyto reduce energy consumption. The main process is to divided the whole network into N childnetwork and using MDS-MAP location algorithm in each child network, then integrate all childrelative coordinates into a whole. Finally getting the absolute by coordinate conversion technology. In the end of this thesis, it analyzes the performance from the aspects of energy consumption andlocalization accuracy compared with the former algorithms on matlab platform. The simulationresult shows that the proposed algorithm is effective and feasible, reduces energy consumptionunder the premise of maintaining the positioning accuracy and deliveries better performance.
