Ultraviolet detecting technology is one of the developed technologies that following the Infrared and Laser detecting technology. It is widely used in many fields such as in military mission:missile warning ultraviolet communication etc; In scientific research:exploration of the universe、high energy physics etc; In civil fields:detection of ozone, off shore oil checks and so on. Ultraviolet image intensifier is one of the core devices of ultraviolet detecting technology. It is an important factor that determines the performance and price of the UV detectors. Ultraviolet image intensifier has many performance index, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is the most important parameter of them.In this paper, the testing technology of the SNR about the Ultraviolet image intensifier is discussed. Firstly, the ultraviolet detecting technology is introduced, Domestic and foreign research the research background of this paper and the major work that must be done in this paper are stated. Next, The concept working principle and performance parameters of ultraviolet image intensifier are introduced, The source of the noises about image intensifier are analyzed, The definition of signal-to-noise ratio about UV image intensifier and the measurement principle about SNR are introduced. Then, the hardware of the SNR tester about ultraviolet image intensifier are introduced, the structure is redesigned basing on the original hardware of the LLL image intensifier, The light source, optical path, mechanical structure, signal processing module of SNR tester about Ultraviolet image intensifier are redesigned and redeveloped.the computer system is upgraded, the SNR tester of the ultraviolet image intensifier is realized. And then, the design of the SNR software testing system about ultraviolet image intensifier are introduced, the main contents are as follows:The software development tools、the main interface of software、the testing module of the SNR、the debugging module、the correcting module、The database operating module、the file operating module、the helping module of the system. Finally, the redesigned SNR tester of ultraviolet image intensifier is used to testing the SNR of two type of ultraviolet image intensifies, The stability of the system is verified by calculating relative errors and standard deviations of the output SNR. The influence of light spot diameter and radiation intensity to the output SNR are tested and analyzed respectively; The influence of the photoelectric cathode、the MCP voltage and the Fluorescent screen voltage to the output SNR are tested and analyzed; In the end, the noise frequency spectrum of the UV image intensifier is simulated by using the Matlab software and the characteristics of the noise are analyzed.
