In the modern communication system, Vector modulator plays a more and more important role. High performance vector modulator can act as adaptive beam to form electronic control element of network in the phased array, and be used to modulate RF signal in the system of high speed digital communication. Foreign research of microwave vector modulator began in the1980s, and now the technology has been mature. At present some reports on hybrid vector modulators have been published, while the research of monolithic integrated balance vector modulator is still at the starting stage. Power splitter, coupler and active device FET are integrated on the GaAs substrate so as to realize the scheme of vector modulator integration. This paper is aimed at the application of millimeter wave phased array system so that chip MMIC technical scheme is used. GaAs technology platform is used for integrated circuit, and realizing millimeter wave vector modulator.Based on the principle of vector modulator, characteristics of various vector modulator and method of calculating, The working frequency is30GHz to40GHz. This paper is related to these points:1. Introduce the role which the vector modulator play in modern communication system and the present research status at home and abroad. Analyze and elaborate different types of modulator circuit working principle and implementation method.2. Discus theory of balanced I-Q vector modulator and the monolithic integrated vector modulator. Simulation is presented.3. According to the platform of GaAs technology, MMIC is integrated on GaAs substrate to achieve a balanced I-Q vector modulator, with PHEMT switch tube core as a control element.4. Briefly introduce vector modulator processing technology, testing methods and the improvement measures.
