Within the rapid development of information technology in modern society, people are exposed to more and more medium from traditional paper to various electronic equipment. As a new medium, barcode occupied an important position in people’s life at the beginning of its appearance. The early barcode is1D barcode which has the ability to store data horizontally and it’s mainly used as a medium of number transmission. A complete use of1D barcode needs the support from network and database. This technology has solved part of problems in the field of industry and commerce, but the shortage of data capacity still hinders its popularization. On this situation,2D barcode was developed with the ability to store data horizontally and vertically. It greatly increases the data capacity and people can use it to transmit more data without support of large amount of devices. Meanwhile, the increasement of data capacity has also expanded the encoding range of barcode, and chinese character becomes possible to be coded in barcode.With the popularization of smart phones in recent years, people can easily download software from internet to decode2D barcode. This plays a great role in promoting2D barcode. In China, the most promoted2D barcode is PDF417(Portable Data File) and QR Code(Quick Response Code). but QR Code is much more promoted for civil use. So. many researchers pay more attention on the further research of coding and recognizing2D barcode. Based on the GB/T18284-2000OR Code. this thesis researches deeply in encoding and decoding standard and recognition technology of QR Code. and design a prototype system named QR Code generation and recognition system based on the portable platform Qt.The main work of this thesis includes the following aspects:(1) Introduce the course of development of2D barcode. research and analysis the structure and characteristics of some common2D barcode. Mainly analysis the current usage of QR Code and raise some forward-looking applications and research directions based on the characteristics of QR Code.(2) Introduce the basic flow of the QR Code encoding and decoding. study the principle of using the Reed-Solomon Error Control Code in the process of encoding and decoding QR Code.(3) Introduce and study the recognition work of QR Code image before decoding, mainly includes image preprocessing, locating, perspective transform, complete the recognition work before decoding. (4) Base on the study of the basic flow of the QR Code encoding and decoding and the preprocessing work of QR Code image, this thesis design a prototype system named QR Code generation and recognition system based on the portable platform Qt. And this is an important basic work for further commercial use.
